Ballet

What is Classical Ballet?

Classical ballet originated in France in the 17th century at the court of Louis XIV. The special thing about classical ballet is that the original technique from back then still forms the basis of dance. All over the world, the same exercises are used during ballet lessons.

Why Classical Ballet?

The classical ballet technique contributes to proper dance posture and physical condition. At Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts, Ballet is the basis for all other dance styles.

Ballet lessons for all ages!

To adults, we offer 1-hour ballet lessons on Monday and Tuesday evenings. To children and teenagers, Classical Ballet is only offered within the Marthas Dance Plus Class lesson package.

Marthas Dance Plus Class

Apart from the 1-hour lessons, we offer the Marthas Plus Class lesson packages, such as the Marthas Dance Plus Class. This package includes two lesson hours (for primary school groups 3 and 4) or three lesson hours a week (beginning from primary school group 5 up to secondary school class 6). These are PTMD, Ballet, and DAZ lessons.

The Plus Classes are for children and teenagers who want to commit to dance more, or who consider following our Preparational education programme. (Please note: you are only accepted to our Preparational education programme if you successfully pass the audition)

When do these lessons take place?

For primary school pupils, all Marthas Dance Plus Classes take place on Wednesday afternoons. Secondary school pupils follow these lessons on Saturday mornings.
